Key Takeaways:
- It’s common to feel frustrated when things are taking longer than expected to manifest, but buying into self-doubt can sabotage your efforts.
- There’s always a gap between action and outcome. Outcomes come later from actions taken earlier. Persistence through the “wobbly bits” is key.
- When we judge ourselves during periods when things feel slow, it activates stress and self-sabotage. Stay confident.
- Your success is inevitable if you don’t quit. Keep going with belief despite wobbles.
- You can choose to trust the timing, like waiting calmly for an Amazon package. Know it’s coming and focus on taking aligned action.
So today we’re talking about what to do when it feels like things are just taking way too freaking long.
So how many of you guys have experienced this feeling like, I’m doing all the things, I’m doing everything right, but it’s just not showing up? What the heck is going on?
How many of you have felt this experience of, I’m putting in all this effort, but it’s just not working? Why is this taking so frickin long?
Well, you’re not alone. This is so frickin common to feel this way. And in fact, I would say it’s almost like a universal for every entrepreneur on the planet to feel as though, why is this taking so dang long? Why is it taking so long for the results to manifest in my life, for these things to pop into my reality? Why is this not showing up immediately? Why isn’t this showing up exactly on the timeline that I wanted to show up on? Goodness gracious.
Right? Have you felt that way? I know I sure have. And let me tell you, this is one of those, like, little danger zones, you know, to the danger zone. This is one of those danger zones where we can get ourselves into trouble because when things are taking longer than we expected, when things are taking longer than we want them to take, this is often, this is usually where we get the wobbles, where we start to go into self doubt, where we start to ask ourselves and pick at ourselves, what am I doing wrong? What am I not doing right? What is the problem here? I must not, you know, I must not know what I’m doing.
We start to generate those beliefs about ourselves that are like fractured and lies that are things like, maybe I’m not cut out for this because, look, the results aren’t here yet. They’re not instantaneous. So something must be wrong.
And the I must be the thing that’s wrong. Well, a lot of times there, I’m not saying anything’s wrong with you, by the way, but a lot of times there are things that need to be dug out.
Things like limiting beliefs, things like old traumas from the past, old stories, ancestral traumas, all of this stuff, all of the stress response, the stuck emotions, all of this stuff that is getting in the way of us up leveling and us claiming what it is that we’re trying to create in our life, whether that’s more money, more success, a bigger income, a podcast interview, whatever the heck it is that you’re trying to create, but it’s taking too long.
Somebody isn’t getting back to you about the invoice that you sent them, whatever it is, you know, we get the wobbles and we begin to say to ourselves, maybe I’m gonna cut out for this. Maybe this wasn’t meant for me. Well, in a way, that is meant to.
That is a way that our mind tries to protect us. It tries to prepare us for the worst case scenario. I mean, how many of you guys know someone in your life who’s like, well, you’ve got to prepare, you know, prepare for the worst.
Expect the best, but prepare for the worst? Well, if you’re preparing for the worst, you’re expecting the worst, let’s just be honest. But it’s a way that we’ve all developed this self protective mechanism that’s attempting to keep us safe, but it’s essentially keeping us stuck.
Because when we get in that little period of the wobbles, when things are taking too long and we’re going like, well, the worst might happen, how does that feel in your body? How does that actually feel physically? How does that feel in terms of your stress response and in terms of your nervous system? Probably feels pretty stressful.
Probably feels pretty tight, pretty wound up, pretty like. Right? And so when we slip into that feeling of stress, guess what happens? Our subconscious mind thinks the thing that’s taking too long is actually dangerous. And then we begin to do things like self sabotage.
We begin to do things like, we don’t show up, we procrastinate. We, you know, like, here’s a perfect example that will really highlight this for you. So let’s say you’re an entrepreneur and you’re going through a launch, and during that launch, people aren’t signing up for your program right at the beginning, and you’re like, this is taking too long.
This isn’t working. Something’s wrong. What happens with that person when they’re in that wobbly space before their cart closes? Right? Because that’s the time that people have to sign up, but you’re not there yet.
They just haven’t signed up in the first few days. Well, if you believe that it’s not working, guess what’s going to happen. You’re going to stop showing up.
You’re going to stop talking about it. You’re going to stop emailing your list. You’re going to stop feeling confident in it.
You’re going to feel as though it doesn’t have value. You’re going to feel as though people aren’t paying attention to you, that you don’t matter, that maybe it’s not worth it that maybe it’s priced too high. All of these doubts and fears are going to come up, and they’re going to be like, you know, the weeds at the bottom of the lake trying to pull you under instead of feeling like you’re swimming in clear, open water.
And so when we get in that wobbly space, when, you know, for example, with the example, the cart’s open, nobody’s signing up, we get in that wobbly space. And when we buy into that bull, that bullshit that’s coming up, we lose confidence in ourselves, we lose confidence in our offers. We lose confidence in what it is that we’re creating.
And then we lose persistence, and then we lose the joy, and then we lose the passion, all because we bought into the wobbly moment between actions and outcomes. Whereas if we can hold our energy through that launch, regardless of what’s going on around us, regardless of what the outcomes are not there, that’s when we create the thing that we want, when the cart closes in this example, but when we can actually get there. So the other important thing to really understand when it comes to this is there is a gap.
There’s always a gap between action and outcome. The actions that you take today create an outcome in the future. The outcomes that you see today are due to actions you’ve taken in the past.
So our actions and outcomes are like the sonic boom of an airplane, right? You hear the boom after it’s actually happened, not simultaneously. It’s like the trail of ripples behind a boat. You don’t see the ripples in the boat in the same.
In the same exact place. The ripples come afterwards. They’re generated by the action of the boat, but they come after the outcome comes after.
The problem is, is that we’re all. I mean, we’re in a freaking, you know, media gratification society that has caused us to feel as though unless we have an immediate dopamine hit, that something’s wrong. But nothing is wrong.
This is just the way it works. When we put out these actions, when we have these aligned actions, is that the effects, the outcomes happen afterwards. Our role, our number one strength, but also potential weakness, is the wobbly bits.
Between is the wobbly bits where we feel like it’s taking too long and we begin to question ourselves and we begin to lose our faith. It’s the persistence to keep going that makes that sonic boom happen, where we actually see the outcome, where the launch succeeds, because everybody buys on the last day, because we kept our energy up and we kept our belief in our faith and our trust and our confidence all up the whole time instead of bowing down to the old way of being, which is that that wobbly moment means something about me.
So imagine, like, if a plane stopped flying when the sonic boom, they couldn’t hear it.
Oh, plane’s not working. No, of course, they don’t do that. And you don’t have to do that either.
It doesn’t actually have to be your reality. That you succumb to the wobbly bits in between action and outcome, that you succumb to the feeling of discouragement, because, let’s be honest, you might feel during that wobbly bit. Let’s talk about that launch again.
You might get to a feeling where you feel a little afraid, or you feel a little bit like what’s going on, or you’re like, this is still taking too long. Or you feel wobbly. It’s okay to feel those things.
There’s nothing wrong with the feelings. It’s that we get stuck there. It’s that we buy into it and that we make it mean something about ourselves.
It’s that we begin to make it a monster instead of a mouse in the closet. The other really important factor here to consider is that this point when we feel like things are taking too long, this is when we often slip into self judgment. This is when we often slip into a feeling like, I’ve done something wrong.
I should be over here. This is when we actually begin, a lot of times, to slip into comparison. We start to see people on Instagram, oh, they’re making it work.
What are they doing that I’m not doing? I must be doing something wrong. We begin to look at other pieces of evidence for how what we’re doing is faulty, isn’t enough. Are there new things that we could do? Probably.
Are there mindset shifts that we could make? Yeah, maybe. But it doesn’t mean that we’re not enough. It doesn’t mean that we have to allow fear in self doubt, to take the wheel, to be the leader in our business.
Because you’re the leader in your business, right? It takes us out of our ability to persist because of the judgment we’re putting on ourselves, because we’re listening to that inner asshole in our head that’s saying, well, you should be out there. Should have happened by now. The fact that it didn’t means that fill in the blank with whatever your nasty little voice inside of your voice is, that of your head says, and this is when.
Then it becomes a stressor. This is when the subconscious mind then believes that this thing is dangerous and that this thing is a threat and that we have to hold back from it, from the thing we most deeply want. And our nervous system becomes dysregulated and we stay in that chronic sense of stress, and we get tighter, we get more constricted, and we lose capacity to think straight.
We get dumber. We don’t have our creativity and our intuition and our joy on board. And then we go, why isn’t this working now? Not only now is it taking longer than I thought.
It’s just not even working because we’ve now slipped back into the stress response, because we’ve judged ourselves and we’ve told ourselves something’s wrong with ourselves instead of saying, you know what? This is the wobbly bits. The wobbly bits. And I can maintain and persist through this moment to get to the point when the outcome is inevitable.
Because here’s the ticket. Here’s the key.
- Your success is inevitable as long as you don’t quit.
- Your success is inevitable as long as you persist.
- Your success is inevitable as long as you keep going.
It’s only when you take moments like these where it’s taking too long or you get the wobbles to be a stop sign that you end up not getting what you want.
You don’t have to buy into this. You don’t have to buy into these stories, into these beliefs. You don’t have to slip back into the old ways of being and into the stress.
You can get through these wobbly bits. You can get through these moments when things feel like they’re taking so too long and still be in a perpetual state of belief and trust and faith. Enjoy and pleasure.
Here’s a really good example that will help illustrate this for you. Imagine you ordered something on Amazon and it’s supposed to be there in two days. You know, you get the two day prime delivery and that package is coming.
Do you sit there going, why is it taking so long? Why is it taking so long? Pacing the floor, looking out the window the whole time? No, you just order it and you expect it to be there and you just know it’s going to be there. Right? Well, what happens when that package is delayed by a day? Oh, Isa’s taking so long. It must not be coming.
I should cancel my order. I should cancel. No, you just go, okay? It’s going to take another day.
Granted, Amazon’s going to tell you usually exactly when it’s coming, and we don’t always have that certainty. What not usually even when it comes to our businesses, when it comes to creating more income, when it comes to feeling more free and more fulfillment and all of these things. But what we do have is our capacity to become unattached to it being on a certain timeline and to trust and believe that it’s inevitable and to not stress ourselves without in the process to just like that Amazon package coming in the mail, just sit back and do the other things you got to do.
And you’re, and you’re applying yourself to and not worry about it and to trust that it’s coming. So when you can stay in that energy of this is inevitable. Even though I have wobbles, even though it’s taking longer than I’d like it to, even though my reality isn’t exactly how I want it to look at the moment, I’m going to just choose to keep applying myself to understand that the outcomes come in the future and it will feel great when I have it.
It’s still inevitable. This is when things shift. This is part of shifting our reality, not just with money, but with success and with every divine, beautiful thing that you are creating in your life.
